Valentin Imperial Maya Resort - Playa del Carmen, Mexico
I just returned from the Valentin Imperial Maya hotel in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I am a fan of the Riviera Maya area and Playacar and visit every January with friends. This was my first time at this hotel since it is pretty new. It is definitely my new favorite, adults-only, all inclusive in the Playacar area. The rooms are what impressed me the most. All the rooms - including the standard category - are beautifully decorated, spacious and comfortable. It’s difficult to find a decent bed in this area since many beds in even the luxury properties are built on concrete slabs. The beds at the Valentin were wonderful with just the right amount of firmness and comfort. There is a great sitting area and spacious, beautiful bathroom. The rooms are quiet; even garden view rooms have beautiful vistas from of the balcony because the gardens are exquisite.
The grounds at the Valentin are incredible! There is an amazing pool that winds around much of the property. There are a lot of deck chairs so finding a place to sit was never a problem. There is a great bar in the middle of the pool for swim up service and a fun beach grill for lunches or snacks anytime. Walking around the grounds is an adventure. It is a large resort and if you fancy a morning walk, just strolling through the grounds is great exercise.
The food was great at the specialty restaurants. We had a few with us that were bigger eaters and they have pretty small portions, except at the buffets. Some asked for a second entrée or dessert. The portions were just right for me. The breakfast buffet was incredible; I had something different every day. The beach is great with lots of shade, chairs, and good bar service. I would have loved to see some day beds there.
I only have a few complaints: there was a long delay to receive a room key after arriving. The grounds are really large and if you have walking issues this would be a problem (I loved the walks after the great meals). The bar staff seemed to be learning how to make drinks - the mojitos tasted like limeades and the specialty drinks seemed to all have the same taste. There wine selection in the restaurants was consisted of Chilean and Mexican vintages. The fitness facilities were sparse and small and seemed a bit of an afterthought.
The Valentin Imperial Maya has a lot of great space for weddings and group events. Even when there are events going on at the grounds it didn’t seemed crowded because of all the great space. It is a great resort for the money pricing a bit less than resorts comparable in star rating. I would (and already have many times) highly recommend this resort to my clients.
