Royal Hideaway Playacar is the Occidental hotel chain’s top all-inclusive resort.It’s a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. Conveniently located a few minutes from downtown Playa del Carmen, everything about this hotel is beautiful!

There are just 200 rooms, arranged in clusters of 16-24 villas, 2 -3 stories high. Each villa has its own concierge. The luxury and luxury oceanview rooms are similar except for distance from the beach and view. There are also duplex suites and two Presidential suites. Internet access is available and free to guests.

There are five restaurants at the hotel; Spices and Ventanas stand out. Guests have exchange privileges at other Occidental hotels in the area (which is not reciprocal); Royal Hideaway is so nice I imagine many wouldn’t want to leave. A strict dress code is required for dinner at this upscale resort: no jeans/cutoffs, flip flops, and no sandals for men. Shirts with collars are a must.

There is a huge theater for entertainment options.

In addition to the hotel pool, there are smaller and more private “relaxation” pools scattered around the property, with Jacuzzis at each one. The excellent beach has double lounge beds on raised platforms under canopies with white gauze curtains all along the shore - very romantic! When you’d like to take a relaxing stroll, Playa del Carmen is about 20 minutes away.

For those of you confused between Playa del Carmen and Playacar, the following might be helpful. Playa del Carmen is the port town for the ferry to Cozumel, with many souvenir shops as well as some upscale shopping centers - American Express has a foreign exchange booth right in front of the Plaza de la Fiesta. This resort town is very popular with tourists and shoppers. Playacar is an upscale gated community with hotels and condominiums and its own golf course about 5 minutes from Playa del Carmen. Royal Hideaway is in Playacar.

My overall impression of Royal Hideaway is it’s a top hotel with beautiful grounds and an excellent beach. It’s great for a romantic getaway or a honeymoon!
