GOGO Vacations

Si Como No

Si Como No is a great property located minutes from Manuel Antonia State Park in Quepos, Costa Rica. Small lobby looks out over a forested area to the ocean below. Depending on the time of day, you may spot whales from this vantage point where the resort has thoughtfully installed a viewing telescope.

This property is built down the hillside with no elevators so be aware that you will have to walk up and down stone stairs. There is help to get your luggage to and from the street level lobby to your room. All the walkways are draped with foliage and flowers making a colorful backdrop for pictures. Small mammals and retiles can be spotted along the walkways but will scurry away as you approach.

The pool and surrounding deck is very pleasant and well kept. Tables and chairs are plentiful and there is a bar right beside the pool as well as restrooms so you don’t have to run back to your room. There is also a shaded area on the deck if the sun is too much.

Down the stairs from the pool is the Claro Que Si restaurant. The food here is very well prepared and presented and actually quite reasonably priced. We tried fish, beef and pasta which were all wonderful. The breakfast buffet is also served here with a good selection of hot dishes along with fresh tropical fruit, juices, coffee and tea. Service was friendly and professional.

We stayed in a Deluxe room and it was quite large with a nice sitting area, mini-kitchen with sink and fridge, huge bathroom with big walk in shower, and balcony with 2 lounge chairs to enjoy the sunset. The only thing to watch is some of the windows open out onto the walkways so privacy can be compromised at certain times of the day and evening. Beds were king size and comfortable with ceiling fans over them. A/C is kept to a minimum as this resort is very environmentally aware but we felt it was adequate considering the outside temps. All rooms are also equipped with umbrellas. There are lots of nice soaps, shampoo and lotions in the bathroom as well as a dispenser inside the shower. The rooms were some of the nicest I have stayed in with colorful bed coverings and tropical furnishings. Add to that, the howler monkeys in the am and pm and you have an experience not to be found at many resorts.

The Rico Tico Bar & Grill was being renovated during our visit.

The beach for Si Como No is down the hill and there is a shuttle that runs to and from for those not interested in climbing the hill. Beach towels are provided and you will want to carry snacks and drinks if you plan to stay for a few hours.

Si Como No is just a few minutes’ walk from several restaurants and an ATM that dispenses US dollars. They also have a wildlife refuge across the street where you can enter the world of the Costa Rican butterflies. This small but well run refuge also is home to rescued caiman and alligators. Entrance to the park is free if you are staying at Si Como No.

Notes of interest: There is a small group of shops next door that has trinkets and souvenirs along with an internet café. There is also a coffee bar that serves great iced.

This is a Greentique Hotels Nature Resort and the owner works closely with local students teaching them how to preserve their environment.

The staff at the front desk can arrange tours with many of the reputable local vendors who will provide pick up at the hotel. Prices are reasonable and vendors offer a wide variety of trips.

Si Como No is a well run, clean and comfortable resort with great food, well kept and generously sized rooms, friendly staff and a beautiful view. The only folks who might not be right for this property are those with walking disabilities. Although the resort is small, the stairs are steep and a requirement to get to the restaurants and pool areas.
