The Riu Palace Riviera Maya is like staying at a Spanish palace on a gorgeous beach! Most of the rooms have a beautiful view of the stunning landscaped grounds, with Spanish style fountains! The rooms closest to the beach offer ocean views.

The beach has a ”forest” of deep green palm trees providing some shade for those who want to lay on the beach chaises — or choose the sun. The pool is huge– and has in-pool tiled lounges and Jacuzzi jets at the in-pool tables set up for having drinks IN the pool! The Riu Palace Riviera Maya offers free introductory scuba lessons in the pool. The very best surprise: the beach and pool have bar service — waiters come by on a regular basis to take drink orders!

The dinners were wonderful — our favorites were the Mexican and the Continental Fusion restaurant — great choices — well prepared! Reservations can be made ahead of time, for those who prefer to plan ahead.

Riu Palace Riviera Maya is perfectly located if you want to walk into Playa del Carmen, which is just a short 15 minute walk. You can walk along the sidewalk, in the “million dollar golf course community” of Playacar, and in 15 minutes you are at the shops in Playa del Carmen. Here’s a tip: Along the way, you will walk past some Mayan ruins located just off the sidewalk - a great photo opportunity!
