Intercontinental Moorea Resort and Spa
I visited the Intercontinental Moorea Resort and Spa in Moorea and I can understand why it is so popular. The lobby is open and airy. The main part of the resort is older and the Garden / Lanai rooms are more like motel rooms. However, they do have some lovely beachfront and over water bungalows. The bungalows are spacious and spread out across the resort so you don’t feel too crowded but it can make for a bit of a hike to get to the main part of the resort where most of the public services such as restaurants are located.
The Over Water Bungalows are more like “partial” Over Water Bungalows as only parts of them stick out over the water. This can be very disappointing to travelers expecting to be totally surrounded by stunning blue water on all sides of their bungalow.
The Beach Bungalows can be a little misleading. Beach Bungalows at most resorts sit directly on the beach. This resort has Beach Bungalows that are on the Lagoon and have some sand between the bungalow and the lagoon. It’s not exactly the same thing as stepping off your bungalow balcony, onto the sand and walking into the ocean.
The big draw to this resort is the Moorea Dolphin Center which has one of the best dolphin programs I’ve seen. Even if you are not staying at the resort you can book a dolphin encounter here at the Intercontinental. As part of the resorts pretty setting they have a winding lagoon that goes through much of the property. Within the lagoon don’t be surprised to find sea turtles rehabilitating in its protected environment.
*Another note of caution is that since the Dolphin Center is a huge draw you will also get people from cruise lines visiting the resort to enjoy this experience this means that some of them may also make use of some of the other facilities.
The resort also has a lovely spa which blends the natural tropical setting within its treatments. They incorporate much of the natural beauty of the island in their treatment areas. It has a feel of spa set in a secret garden.
Over all I would say this resort though older is a solid 3 star property that I recommend for guests who long to be close to the aquatic guests at the resort. It is also a good fit for budget minded families.
