It was a sad day when we had to leave the adults only resort, Excellence Punta Cana. Upon arrival we were greeted with a glass of champagne and escorted to the Excellence Club private lounge with a brief tour of the resort along the way. After a quick check-in, we were taken upstairs for food and drink. Then we were escorted to our Excellence Club Junior Suite. A wonderful aroma greeted us as we stepped into our suite. The king canopy bed had two towel swans with rose petals scattered around them. There was champagne and fruit on the table and a fully stocked bar and refrigerator. The double Jacuzzi tub is between the bed and the bathroom, giving the room a wide open feeling. The bathroom amenities include Bvlgari toiletries. You even have your choice of bed pillows. Our balcony overlooked one of the many pools, yet was far enough from the pool bar that we did not hear the noise. Within minutes, our luggage was delivered, and we were off to explore the rest of the resort.With only two nights at Excellence, it was difficult to decide which of the 8 restaurants to dine in. We had Langosta Lobster at The Lobster House and delicious Grouper at the Asian restaurant, Spice. Lunch at The Grill was a little exotic with Goat on the menu. Breakfast daily in Toscany was a full buffet, and our only buffet meal. No reservations are required at any of the restaurants, and no wristbands!

There are numerous daily activities and 30 minutes of horseback riding per person is included per stay. Snorkeling gear, introductory scuba lessons, bocce, aerobics & water aerobics, water polo, fitness, yoga, jogging, Spanish lessons, dancing lessons, cooking lessons, theme nights, beach volleyball and football, tennis, basketball, squash, bicycles, table tennis, darts, board games, archery, air rifle shooting, and billiards are just some of the activities included. One of our favorite ventures was walking through the botanical gardens that are on the property. They had flamingos, parrots, egrets, turtles, ducks and numerous other birds and wildlife. The resort provides bread to feed to the wildlife. The parrots ate right from my husband’s hand and they were amazingly gentle. Unfortunately, we did not have time to explore the spa or the casino. They also have a nicely equipped gym.

After our horseback ride, it was off to the pool. We enjoyed talking to one of the pool staff and the next day, he had reserved the same two chairs for us. There were personal touches like this throughout our stay in Punta Cana. Everything about the Excellence Punta Cana is EXCELLENTE!
