Luxurious, optional All-Inclusive family resort with world-class recreation – Set on the Dominican Republic's sun-drenched southeastern coast, this renowned resort is known for its gorgeous location, deluxe accommodations, family-friendly activities, stunning golf courses, abundant recreation, top-notch dining, and much more.

Accommodations: Exquisite, air-conditioned accommodations are set in 1- and 2-story Mediterranean-style buildings, or individual 2-bedroom villas, all with cool terra cotta floors, louvered French doors, and private, furnished balconies or patios overlooking the gardens, golf courses, or ocean. Rooms and suites have a king or two double beds, walk-in closet/dressing rooms, sumptuous mahogany furniture, and baths with marble vanities and Frette towels; suites add a canopy bed, queen sofa-sleeper, and an extra bath. Individually designed Classic Villas and Exclusive Villas, ranging from 3 to 6 bedrooms with their own baths, have living and dining areas, fully equipped kitchens, outdoor lounging areas, and private spa tubs or pools. Electronic amenities include direct-dial phones with voice mail and a dataport, cable TV, and Bose Wave radios; some accommodations have more lavish home theater systems.

The resort operates bars in the main building, by the main pool, at the beach, in Altos de Chavon, and at the Shooting Center, as well as mobile snack-and-drink carts on the golf courses. The open-air La Cana Bar spotlights staff-produced shows 5 nights weekly and live dance music nightly.

Recreation: Renowned golf course architect Pete Dye is the force behind the resort's 3 world-famous courses, including the breathtakingly beautiful and challenging "Teeth of the Dog." Tennis players swing away at La Terraza Tennis Center, which encompasses 13 Har-Tru courts (10 of them lighted for night play) overlooking the Caribbean; a staff of 70 is available for instruction. Minitas Beach is the scene for kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. The huge stables house horses for trail riding and polo, plus lessons in English or Western-style riding, jumping, and dressage.
